ART HISTORY 1: part 2
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING AT? cont...
What is it?
Why is it important?
What do you think about it?
This course is a continuation of Art History, Part 1. We will continue our thematic examination of art history, using different themes and concepts as our focus on a wide range of art and artists. This course will address a broad range of ideas and art from early photography and its impact on painting; Monet’s Waterlilies to transient Land Art; the stylistic conventions of the French Salon; the changing political and social implications of the female body throughout the 20th century, and how artists mine their personal and emotional depths for their art from Van Gogh’s Sunflower series to Munch’s sick beds.
In keeping with the tone of the first course, these classes will be conversational discussions were students are encouraged to share their ideas and interpretations, building on their visual analysis skills. Students will be empowered to engage with art that may be out of their personal comfort zones, to better understand the visual culture that we live within.
It is recommended, though not compulsory, that students complete the first course before enrolling in this one.
