PORTRAITS FROM OBSERVATION
This two-day workshop focuses on capturing the portrait through expressive and structured drawing techniques. Working from a model, students will develop their observational skills through sustained looking and careful analysis of proportion, structure, light and form.
The workshop will cover fundamental portrait drawing techniques including gesture, block-ins, proportion measurement, and the study of light and form. Students will work with a variety of drawing materials, exploring line, mark-making, tone and composition to create convincing and expressive portraits from observation.
Through demonstrations, one-on-one feedback and group discussion, students will develop greater confidence in observing and interpreting the individual features and character of the sitter. Emphasis will be placed on looking closely, understanding structure and translating what is seen into a strong and engaging portrait.
This workshop is designed for teens in Yr 9 and above.
All materials will be provided, bring your lunch.
