Trained by letter smiths, and illustrators, Rob Barrington has spent 35 years as a commercial artist and illustrator. He is skilled in hand-lettered signwriting, illustration and graphic design. Rob has continued with the hand-drawn illustrative areas of these industries to create drawings and paintings; from small magazine cartoon work to large scale murals.
Rob works in multi-media including pen and ink, marker pen, coloured pencil, fine brush and ink, acrylic on canvas, board, and paper, chalk, pastel and airbrush. He has adapted his technique to the digital platform for both printed and animation media.
His work has appeared from South Auckland schools, to the far North (Te Ahu Centre, Kaitaia – floor mural) as well as illustrated concepts for various design companies.
Rob gained a Foundation Certificate of Art & Design from Whitecliffe College Of Arts And Design (1997), and a Graphic Design Major from Media Design School (2020). He has been awarded Silver in the Best Design Awards for his bird illustrations for Kauri Conservation, and was Finalist in the Waiheke Small Sculpture Award (2020).
