FROM VISION TO CANVAS:
UNDERSTANDING PAINTING AS PROCESS

The term process art refers to how materials and processes used in painting are revealed in their making and remain evident within the finished work. Artists who work in this way explore the relationships between their materials and the methodology of application.

This course emphasises the materiality of paint and how making the making visible, can proffer meaning and elicit emotions in the viewer. By understanding paint as matter including, paint type, viscosity, texture, hardness, sheen, hue, fragility, resilience, flexibility, and absorbency, viewers can explore different sensations. Alongside this, there will be practical exploration and discussion of both traditional and non-traditional tools and processes.

This course will be of interest to representational painters as much as those working in abstraction.

Leigh is so full of knowledge about art, art practice, materials etc... and he is very happy to share this info – S. Lee (2021)

... just to say how much value I got out of Leigh’s class. That guy really works hard giving attention to both the group and also individuals. His knowledge is so varied, and I really enjoyed his enthusiasm ... the more involvement I have with BSA the more impressed I am. – Steve T (2021)
