ART & LIFE IN THE
ITALIAN RENAISSANCE

The Italian Renaissance is one of the most well-known periods of art in Western European history.

We live with the legacy of this period still, from the visual fabric of everyday life to modern and contemporary artists reacting to the Renaissance across the chasm of centuries.

This course will provide an overview of the Italian Renaissance, contextualised within societal, religious and artistic expectations. Our classes will travel from Ancient Greece and Rome, to the so-called ‘Medieval’ period, and examine the many ways that art thrived in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.

We will also broaden our view to the Northern Renaissance, a simultaneous movement that flourished independently in the Burgundian Netherlands. We will explore comparisons between the two regions, deepening our understanding and appreciation of both.

This course is designed for anyone with an interest in art history, and no prior knowledge is required.

This course is conducted entirely by ZOOM and you'll be emailed a link to join and follow.
