SUMMER : VELVETY BLACK - DRYPOINT PRINT WORKSHOP
This workshop focuses on drypoint and multi-plate printmaking, exploring the finer points of each process through demonstrations and hands-on studio work. You’ll learn techniques for effective ink application, colour roll-up, and chine-collé, with an emphasis on achieving rich, layered prints.
Participants are encouraged to bring visual reference material—drawings, sketches, or photographs—to inform and develop their printed imagery.
For beginners, this course provides an ideal introduction to the exciting world of printmaking. For those with prior experience, it serves as a valuable refresher and an opportunity to deepen technical understanding.
Drypoint is one of the most direct and expressive of all intaglio techniques. Using a sharp needle and a metal or plexiglass plate, the image is drawn by scoring the surface to create a burr that holds ink. When printed, it produces a rich, velvety black line quality and deep tonal variation. A range of tools and approaches will be explored to extend your mark-making vocabulary and add visual drama to your prints.
