INTRODUCING ARTIST'S BOOKS!
Connecting form and content to create a unique handmade book.
An artist’s book is a creative, hands-on way to tell a story or delve into an idea using the familiar shape and purpose of a book. Over the weekend, you’ll learn two simple, adaptable binding techniques and ways to connect your content with the form of the book. We’ll also dip into a little history, looking at how artists have used books to expand their personal practice and investigate new ideas. As a bona-fide bibliophile, Monica will also show you a range of her own books: travel diaries, botanical forays, and artist’s books, a plethora of slim volumes filled with writing, poetry, photos, printed ephemera, drawings both abstract and realistic.
What will you build your book around? A special event, a simple theme, a memory, a place or does your interest lie in abstraction - textures, shapes, and colours? Will you use poetry, drawings, photographs, collage, or unexpected materials? There’ll be plenty of hands-on making time, relaxed discussion, and space to experiment as you create your own unique artist’s book.
No experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to play.
