FLORA II : SPRING!

Suitable for those with a love of nature and a passion for plants, this weekend workshop takes an open-ended, abstract and mixed media approach to representing nature via a range of expressive, intuitive, and experimental methods.

Whereas Flora I focussed on direct observation of selected plant specimens, Flora II examines how to capture the mood, feeling and emotion that nature can impart. Using selected “spring-like” botanical specimens as a starting point for inspiration, we’ll explore a diverse range of mark-making, drawing and painting techniques, tools and applications. Through this, students will develop strategies for creating dynamic and non-representational images that reference nature in more subtle and emotive ways.

Beginning with group activities, we’ll work towards slower and more self-directed projects that give plenty of scope for development beyond the classroom.

Flora II is suitable for any level of experience. You do not need to have completed Flora I, although students are actively encouraged to take both classes.
