CONTEMPORARY COLLAGE

Perfect for those with a love of paper, pattern, and textile design, this two-day workshop is open to all levels of experience. Here we’ll explore the joy of combining simple painting and drawing techniques with both made and found cut-out and collaged elements. Discover how a mixed media approach can add energy and diversity to your work, and investigate how repurposing can both elevate and give new life to found materials providing additional layers of context and meaning.

Beginning with some group exercises that examine colour, shape, form, and composition, we’ll gradually work towards the creation of more fully resolved work/s on board (or other surface/s of your own choosing). Learn how to develop, expand upon, and refine initial ideas. Learn the importance of placement and balance, and the art of visual storytelling. Helping broaden your existing practice or prompting you to begin one, this short course will reinvigorate your creativity producing some unexpected, exciting, and often dynamic results.

Students are requested to bring along any unwanted ‘found’ papers or light fabrics they may have e.g. wallpapers, maps, dress patterns, pre-loved clothes, old books, etc… A scalpel and small cutting board will also be useful.
