LINOCUT BASICS to UP YOUR GAME
This linocut basics weekend workshop is suitable for beginners and for those who want to hone their basic skills ready to take their work to the next level.
Working at a small scale, work through a series of simple exercises to build a good foundation of knowledge to further progress lino printing.
Begin by learning how to prepare lino, becoming familiar with various tools and the types of marks one can create for different visual effects, inking the lino and how to set and adjust the press. Explore different ways that positive and negative shapes, and mark-making, can be used in relief printing for graphic effect and to create a sense of form, space and texture.
Then create a simple one-colour image of an individual design. Learn ways to add colour to this single image with chine collé and rainbow roll effects. Finally, explore ways that a one-colour image can become part of a multi-block image, setting up a simple registration guide and printing and presenting an edition of artwork, including doing all of this without a press, at home.
Course cost includes 1 piece of lino 300 x 300mm approx.
