GROW YOUR BRUSH SKILLS

A two day workshop to develop professional brush handling skills.

How does a Round brush affect mark-making in comparison to a Flat or Filbert shape? What difference does hair length have in laying down paint, and what about the various fibres – what are they best suited to?

The way artists apply paint are countless, all relying on the flexible relationships between hand, brush, and surface. This workshop develops your understanding of these interactions, so you will be able to apply colour more adeptly, to create paint surfaces that show confidence and purpose, whether in detail, over wide areas, as closely defined areas or with loose gesture.

Through practical exercises using a wide range of brushes matched to paint viscosities, you’ll learn professional paint application techniques that can be grown into a wide and convincing paint vocabulary.

Your tutor, Evan Woodruffe is a self-confessed “brush nerd” and globally recognized specialist. As Ambassador for da Vinci Artist Brushes of Germany, he works with them to develop and test new brushes, enabling him to pass on important information to the visual arts community.

N.B. Materials for the workshop will be provided - please bring your lunch, and a notebook / pen for taking notes!
