IMAGINING FIGURES FOR TEENS

In this three day workshop students will explore full figure character design and portrait drawing and painting. Students will experiment with a range of drawing mediums and acrylic paints to capture the dynamic nature of figurative art in both illustration and portraiture. Methods taught will focus on gestural drawing, block- in, and measurement to improve proportion. Further exploration will focus on tone, light, action, planes and anatomical structure.

The course will cover character design for illustration supplemented with  portraiture and clothed figure drawing from life. Participants will draw from stock images of clothed figures to create their own character using techniques to improve proportion and line drawing. Discussions relating to narrative and imagination will be instrumental in giving characters originality.

Characters will be created over three days using a range of media. Additional exercises in life drawing from the clothed model will introduce students to methodologies to improve confidence in drawing the figure.

Students will receive one to one feedback with demonstrations and discussions on principles of light, and form. Drawing and painting materials will be provided.
