Sam Mitchell graduated from Elam school of fine art. She has been exhibiting widely throughout New Zealand, Australia, New York. Her works is represented in private collections in New Zealand, Cairo, Australia, U.S.A, France. Her work is in public collections that include: The James Wallace Charitable Trust, Auckland, and The Alexander Turnbull Library, Wellington. In 2010 she won the 21st Paramount Prize from Wallace Art Awards, and has been a guest judge for the award in 2012 and 2016.

Sam has completed three International Artist Residencies and two National residencies and she has been an artist mentor. Her work has been featured in several publications.


She is represented by Melanie Roger Gallery in Auckland, 
Bartley & Company Contemporary Art in Wellington, and Nadene Milne Gallery, Arrowtown, Southland.
