LUISE FONG

Luise Fong was born to a Chinese father and Pakeha Mother in Sandakan, Malaysia in 1964. Luise and her family returned to New Zealand soon after.

 

She studied at Elam School of Fine Arts, the University of Auckland in 1986 and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1991. On leaving art school, she soon established a reputation for herself as one of New Zealand’s most innovative abstract painters. Her work is represented in major collections both here and overseas.

 

Between 1993 and 1995 Fong worked as a Junior Lecturer at Elam School of Fine Arts, before relocating to Melbourne, Australia, at the end of 1995. Whilst teaching at RMIT, she continued to exhibit her work in New Zealand and Australia, as well as travelling and exhibiting in Frankfurt and Hong Kong on several occasions.

 

In 2000 Fong returned to New Zealand, where she was appointed Lecturer in Painting at Elam School of Fine Arts. She remained there until 2005.

 

Her work is represented in all major public and private collections in New Zealand and private collections in Australia and Asia. Luise is represented in New Zealand by Antoinette Godkin Gallery.
