"Colour is life, for a world without colour seems dead. As a flame produces light, light produces colour. As intonation lends colour to the spoken word, colour lends spiritually realised sound to form. Harmony implies balance, symmetry of forces".- Johannes Itten

Are you confused by colour? This 2-day painting workshop is suitable for all levels of experience and aims to de-mystify some of the most common colour mixing problems.

Beginning with the 12 hue colour circle, we will progress to painterly explorations of the seven colour contrasts as developed by Johannes Itten in his book ‘The Elements of Colour’.

The seven colour contrasts form a structural platform by which an individual expression can begin to flourish. From tonal pitch to the electrifying potential of complementary mixes, to contrasts of saturation and chromatic intensity, an understanding of how colour works is essential for most artists.

Colour composition and their relationships form an important role in the effect a painting has on us, both psychologically and emotionally.
