3 PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS - ALL

These short courses are designed for students interested in learning the fundamentals of photography’s three most infamous genres. You will extend your knowledge of digital photography with the potential to create and resolve a small photographic series. All levels of knowledge and experience are welcome, but students must have access to a digital camera, a computer and preferably a tripod.

THE OBJECT:

Looking at the Object | The Still Life in Photography

 

 

This three-day consecutive Saturday workshop is an introduction to the genre and art of the still life photograph. Participants will learn technical and aesthetic fundamentals in photographing the object, with a focus on refining individual skills.  Topics to be covered and discussed in class and during self-directed study include compositional selection and arrangement, framing, colour, light, and form, as well as specific discussions relating to personal ideas and concepts when photographing still life set-ups.

THE LAND:
Looking at the Land | The Landscape in Photography  

 


This three-day consecutive Saturday workshop is an introduction to the genre of contemporary landscape photography with a focus on refining technique and style. You will be encouraged to experiment while looking at urban sites, specific places or more conventional landscapes. Topics to be covered and discussed include compositional selection and arrangement, editing, light, and form, as well as conceptual and social issues that arise when framing the urban or rural landscape.

THE PORTRAIT: 
Looking at the Subject | The Portrait in Photography

 


This three-day consecutive Saturday workshop is an introduction to the genre, craft and art of portrait photography. Essential techniques will be addressed, including the basic use of a digital camera; camera functions, lenses, understanding light and composition. We will also examine the fundamentals of photographing the subject and an insight into the genre of contemporary portraiture. Discussions will also revolve around creative strategies including directing the subject, colour, emotion, environmental portraiture on location and the posing and 'editing' of a series of photographic portraits­.­
