PAINTING THE FIGURE IN OILS
This 9-week evening course is based on traditional, academic approaches to drawing and painting from the figure.
Working directly from the life model, students will be introduced to the techniques involved in creating an anatomically correct life drawing and painting.
The course will cover the principle skills of expression through mark making, tonal pitch, scale, and proportion. Colour mixing and nuance will be addressed on an individual basis as we extend into painting.
We will also look at creating spatial depth, and how to achieve a believable resolved work through sustained observation. This will be a rewarding workshop open to all levels of ability from beginners to the more experienced.
Weeks 1-3: Working from reference images/photos supplied by the tutor. This will include a visual understanding of form, of working processes, and the 'building blocks' and components that help lead to successful painting.
Weeks 4-9: Observation from a life model, applying concepts and techniques covered in the first 3 weeks to a real-time pose.
