ANTON CHAPMAN

Anton Chapman obtained a Diploma in Fine Art in 1979 from Rhodes University, South Africa, receiving Distinctions in Theory of Art and Painting. In 1987 he was awarded an MFA with Distinction from the same University.

 

Anton is an experienced teriary level tutor. He began his teaching career as a Junior Lecturer both in Art Theory and Painting at Rhodes University and the University of Durban- Westville in Natal, South Africa. He was a Senior Lecturer at Whitecliffe College of Art and Design, Auckland, where he taught from 1994 to 2004. Anton was responsible for a large number of drawing and painting programmes which included Objective Drawing, Life Drawing, Anatomy and Painting from the Figure. During 1995 he was a Life Drawing Tutor to year one at Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland University. Anton has taught both Drawing and Painting privately since 2004.

 

He has been selected as a finalist in the Waikato Art Awards, the Wallace Awards and was a runner up in the North Shore Art Awards. In 2005 he was the supreme winner of the Waitakere Trust Art Awards.

 

Art history, art theory, drawing and painting are an integral part of his painting practice.
